Frequently-Asked Questions    SAT vs. ACT
Simplistically, the SAT tests how you think, and the ACT tests what you know.  Most colleges will take either one. 

Most 4-year colleges require the SAT or ACT.  Most 2-year colleges do not.

Yes, you should study.  If you want to apply to several schoolsl, take it 2 or 3 times if possible.



Frequently-Asked Questions    CUNY vs. SUNY
CUNY is the City University of New York.  It is the cheapest  college for New York City residents.  It does not offer  housing. 

SUNY is the State University of New York.  It is the 2nd-cheapest college.  Most campuses offer housing.



Frequently-Asked Questions    HBCU
Historically Black Colleges & Universities now accept students regardless of race.  Reputedly, they are less competitive to enter and more competitive to graduate from than many comparable colleges.

         


 


Frequently-Asked Questions     PRIVATE vs. PUBLIC Public colleges like CUNY and SUNY are cheaper than private colleges  because they are subsidized by local taxes.

Private colleges are usually more expensive than public schools because they often have smaller clalsses and other amenities.

Private is not necessarily better than public.  Public colleges have educated many great leaders, and they provide a wide variety of degree programs in order to appeal to all their residents.

Private colleges will not necessarily cost you more than public.  Depending on your income and many other factors, you may be offered an excellent financial aid package.
